Janice M. Smith said The most significant book I've ever read.. This was a textbook I was required to read. I read the original version Blood Sweat & Tears The Evolution of Work. This book does examine work from a western perspective. I found this book to be one of the most significant books I have ever read. In the West the protestant work ethnic is programmed into almost every aspect of our lives. The author challenges the reader to step back and take a personal examination of their own work ethic. Capitalism and the Protestant work ethic can steal you lives before you even re. Title not quite accurate The title should really be "a partial history of work, focusing on innovations in the west during the last few centuries." I was hoping for something more far-reaching in scope, although the treatment here of the industrial revolution(s), adjacent phenomena, and socio-political impact of same is nonetheless very interesting and well-told. The Anglo-centrism of it all caused me to subtract points.. Detailed AND Interesting This book is both detailed and interestingtwo things that don't always go well together. I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned all that I needed to for my research.
