gmeyers said Prince of Nothing. I was honestly a little reluctant to begin this series because of the negative feedback I had seen. However, the description of the book itself compelled me to give it a go. I am exceedingly glad that I did so. I love this series in so far as I have read. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, just waiting for it to all come together, and understand the importance of each. "This book is frustrating in a brilliant way for the most part" according to Michael G. Mclendon. This book is frustrating in a brilliant way for the most part. There are multiple times where I wish it would just be more straight forward but then it wouldn't be what it is. The prose is slightly challenging at times but mostly this is a wonderfully dark and violent epic fantasy that has shades of contemporaries like Peter V Brett, Brian Staveley and GRRM but also an othernes. Excellent first book gilesco Great depth in this first part of the Prince of Nothing. Sometimes hard to keep track on who's with what faction, but Bakker develops his characters with great mastery. Looking forward to the second book. Would have liked more detail and ease of reading of the maps, and a diagram of houses, factions and names would also help.
