DESCRIPTION:

Burne Hogarth is one of the most famous artists in the history of comic strips - at the peak with Alex Raymond (Flash Gordon) and Hal Foster (Prince Valiant). In 1936 he followed Foster on the massively popular Tarzan comic strip, and set a new standard for dynamics and excitement. This is the first of four exclusive volumes that will collect Hogarth's entire run, beginning with Tarzan and the Golden City.Restored and reproduced in an oversized format, these editions will finally do justice to one of the most lauded illustrators of all time, whose work has been out of print for more than a decade. Details of illustrations:   Full-color restorations of the newspaper strips, reproduced in the oversized full-page format made popular by current collections of Prince Valiant and Popeye the Sailor.Details of extras:  Historical articles from Scott Tracy Griffin, author of Tarzan: The Centennial Celebrati

In this case we go all the way back to 1937 when Burne Hogarth took over from Hal Foster who had left to concentrate on Prince Valiant. As in the Flash Gordon reprints by TB, the cream colored paper stock and the excellent restoration (without recoloring) makes this a real treat for Tarzan fans. The size is just right, not too big and certainly not small at all; which makes it very easy to handle and flip through the pages. The binding looks very sound and I am positive it will stand my use and abuse. Going over the stories, one can appreciate ho. Love to have so many stories by Hogarth in one volume Love to have so many stories from Hogarth in one volume. This is early Hogarth and that can be seen by the quality of his drawings. He became much better later on, as an artist should become. The colors are not bright, but probably as they have been in the newspapers.Would have been better with a recoloring. Though I love to be able to sit and have so much of Hogarth at hand to enjoy with a cup of tea.Though I must say that Amazon was quite disapointing this time! The package that the quite heavy book was protected by was in a bad shape on arriva

In 1950 he left the strip to co-found the Cartoonists and Illustrators School, today known as the world-famous School for Visual Arts. Burne Hogarth was accepted to the Art Institute of Chicago at age 12, and by age 15 he was already an assistant cartoonist at the Associate Editors' Syndicate. . He took over the reins of Tarzan in 1937, and stayed with the strip for more than a decade. He i
