DESCRIPTION:
Enjoyable read! A slightly different take on wolf shifters. They are known to humans, have full rights & laws to protect them. There is some world building in little history nuggets here and there but no huge info dump about how the wolves 'came out'.Besides the wolf shifters there has to be a suspension of belief when it comes to the police investigation but it's a shifter story so it didn't bother me.I liked both Rob & Jamie as well as the secondary characters. Some angst but not overdone and while there is a mate bond it's more insta-lust than insta-love.There isn't a cliffhanger but it is open to the next book with a believably real HFN. I'm really . Entertaining plot. Surprisingly good plot here with humans and werewolves living side by side, with a fresh angle on shape shifters. This time it is not humans who are vulnerable but the werewolves exploited when they are at their weakest. The characters are interesting. However it is just that little extra emotional punch which I find lacking between Rob and Jamie. Rob's repulsion of interspecies relationship is easily overcome, when it is the core issue of their relationship. Maybe it is the words limitation again. It is either plot or romance. I guess it is difficult to strike the right balance when this is a mystery thriller. Still an entertaining rea. A fresh new take on an often-overplayed concept Robert Carnevali I've never read anything from Diane Adams before, but have been a fan of RJ Scott. Here, they work well together and spin a tale of suspense by breathing new life into the shifter (werewolf) genre. The premise is that werewolves let themselves be known in the past, and are now incorporated into society and culture. The old pack laws that are prevalent in other tales (such as alphas having control over their pack members) gives way to a world were laws were passed protecting all wolves. Here, they all have rights and are protected from being abused/controlled by old customs. Nightclubs advertise themselves as being mixed or "pure", hospi
But interspecies relationships are not on Rob's to-do list. Race relations and gay rights have shown struggles for acceptance. He sees it all: fights, murders, and parts of human / wolf interaction people would rather ignore. Add another species and it's a totally different world. Jamie is human and wolf. When a case involving werewolf kidnappings lands on Rob's desk, Jamie seems at the center. Rob meets Jamie at a club, unaware the man is a shifter. Werewolves aren't a supernatural fairytale but a living breathing part of society. Although even with new laws it's not easy. Can Rob relinquish his prejudices and keep Jamie alive?. Rob serves in a special police task force on wolf / human cases
