A -Trial- to DM In comparison to Pathfinder Adventure Path: Carrion Crown Part 1 - Haunting of Harrowstone I found that Trial of the Beast was a big let down. I flat out told my players that I was skipping large chunks of it after reading the Adventure. It's not that I didn't find the story good, it's I found the implementation, character plot devices, and trial mechanics to appeal to only a few people.This is of course where being a DM comes into play, I reworked the entire first section, giving a cameo appearance by Benjan Caeler (the Ravengro Sheriff from Part 1) to "do" most of the Adventure Path, while I had my players do other t. Half investigation, half dungeon crawl. Spengebab Trial of the Beast, like the other Carrion Crown modules, doesn't have a whole lot tying it to the prior module, so you can easily run this as a stand-alone adventure. Like The Haunting of Harrowstone, the mod is basically split up between the first half being an investigation game and mingling with townsfolk while the second half is pretty much all dungeon crawl. Now where the investigative portion of Harrowstone was fairly easy and gave the players over a month to figure things out, Trial of the Beast gives the players three days to investigate several crime scenes in order to prove a monster's innocence, the players. Carrion Crown ups the ante in Part 2 Alexander Augunas If you enjoyed the Haunting of Harrowstone, things only get better in the Trial of the Beast. Between monstrous flesh golems and city intrigue, Trial of the Beast has all of the makings of an excellent city-based horror story. If you're worried about the major setting shift from a small village to a big city impacting your game's horror, don't be. Carrion Crown utilizes all of the best tricks and tips to make a creepy, unforgettable game for your players.
