DESCRIPTION:
This book is a practical guide to "reading" the culture of organizations and to understanding the implications of culture for organizational effectiveness. Beginning with an explanation of the theories of organizational culture, the book provides guidance on collecting information, leading students through qualitative research methods of observation, interviewing, and analyzing written texts. Students come away equipped to apply cultural insights to fostering diversity, supporting organizational change, making leadership more dynamic, understanding the link between ethics and culture, and achieving personal growth.
"Too many words. Many omissions. No hard facts on organizational culture. Weak review of organizational culture. Expensive" according to Octavio F Torres Chazaro. The first middle of the book is better than the second. There is an excess of words in this book. And there is a lack of information about, for example, values. No clear mention to the work of Hofstede but a total lack of mention to the theory of values of Shalom Schwartz. You may argue that the authora are just not interested on the quantitative focus on culture analysis and values but I believe that is a huge mistake. No reasonable mention to competing values framework or the Denison approach. I would not recommend this book for a course on Organizational CUlture Analysis. They seem to. "Great book!" according to Nataliya. great book for a student conducting a cultural analysis!I was lucky enough to have the author- Dr. Driskill as my professor at UALR!. Helpful Mrs. V. Very helpful and is an easy read.
"This workbook does a tremendous job of making a lot of complex information easy to understand and apply to real situations." (John Gribas 2010-09-20)"Excellent and most applicable for any organization going through restructuring." (Kumiko Watanuki 2010-12-07)
