DESCRIPTION:
Great book I bought this book for my husband for Christmas as he is currently illustrating a book on the Sikh wars. I gave it to him early as I wasn't entirely sure how useful it would be and it cost too much to be a book left languishing on the shelf! Anyway he was delighted with it, finding many images and reference material he had not seen before. He lent his copy to the author of the new book he is illustrating who immediately bought his own copy. Definitely recommended!. Great Book - Must have for any collector A Customer This book is one most authoritative books on Maharaja Ranjit Singh. This volume elaborates on the catalogue of the exhibition Life and Times of Maharaja Ranjit Singh organised by the Government of Punjab at the Rambagh Place, Amritsar, Punjab to celebrate and commemorate the bicentenary of the coronation of Maharaja Ranjit Singh (16 November 1801-2001). His secular policy was matched by his modernising drive, seen most spectacularly in the military field where innovative measures were introduced with the help of French and Italian military officers who had served under Napoleon. He also introduced innovative administrative measures in the political, economic, and cultural spheres of his kingdom. These include the Imam Bakhsh Lahori school of painting, the discovery of Gandhara art, and the exploration of the Himalayas, which are presented he
Asian Affairs . This magnum opus covers not only the life of the Maharaja, but Sikhism and the history of the time, assembling a unique collection of facts as well as an admirable mass of illustrations, which alone make this magnificent coffee table book well worth its price
