"Four Stars" according to Brian Finlay. I actually purchased this book to increase my chances of seeing bears. This book was very helpful.. Living with Bears We live in the mountains of WNC and bears are becoming more and more often sited near homes. We had a mother bear and 2 cubs up a tree in our yard is why I bought this book. It is chock full of helpful information and wonderfully easy to read stories of bear encounters and stories of what communities have done to decrease bear encounters. I learned right away what was attracting the bears to our yard and we have stopped composting food outside, and bring our bird feeders in at night. We've also switched the bl. Yet little to no consideration is offered for how to manage the landscape such that bears find adequate forage and denning habitat away from human settlements. There is no mention of how to determine carrying capacity or what to do as its limits are approached, or even if that is a desirable goal.
