DESCRIPTION:
This book is the first release of Noha Elmohands' personal spoken word poems. The poems are written from a Progressive Muslim Black Egyptian Woman perspective and with social justice as an arching theme. This collection is personal and revolutionary. These poems explore issues of race, war, love, and history while maintaining a musical style that is a unique identifier of the author's work. Hopefully, you will find yourself enraptured by their grace and power.
Poetry is the music that makes the heart leap, the eyes shed salt, and the skin ripple in shivers. -Noha . Unlike a stereotypical older sibling, Noha looked up to her sister and was mesmerized by her natural skill with words. Ever since witnessing poetry live on a stage, it has never left Noha and she, too, has never left it. It wasn’t until she saw her first live spoken word performance, that a fire was ignited. "Rebellious Identity" according to Eanea. I liked how the author gave voice to those whoever were stereotyped by others or labeled or bullied because of their sexual identity or their race or color and gender. It is powerful for women and teenagers who struggle with their identity and body shape.. A. Ma said Raw, powerful words from a passionate and educated voice.. "Nubian Prince" and "S.J. Soldiers" are among my favorites. The imagery throughout the book is vibrant. While the words are at times harsh, the message is clear and important: social justice is justice for all and the marginalized are still waiting to be heard. Great first publication. Looking forward to more future works.. Five Stars! The poet explores the complexities of identity, of race, of love-of dreams and hope and the infinite realms of the human experience with such raw emotion and crafted structure that it is a must read.
