Superlative Historical Resource London Fog An excellent work of equal value to anyone fascinated by the Ripper case in addition to the nuances of Victorian life, I have come to regard this as invaluable for period research as well as being an above average account of the Whitechapel murders. Heavily steeped in the prevailing political o. thewritersjourney said A fascinating book on a fascinating topic. It is difficult to imagine living in 1888 when a brutal killer stalked strangers in the streets of London, waiting to pounce on his next unsuspecting victim. Author Rupert Matthews attempts to capture the atmosphere of the Londoners in Jack the Ripper’s Streets of Terror by exploring news. Nicely illustrated book I quite enjoyed this book. I found somephotos and illustrations that I hadn't seen before. There was some new information as well. Overall a very good read and the price was nice too.
This book looks at the crimes of Jack the Ripper through the eyes of the Londoners who had to survive his career of brutal savagery. It follows the way the crimes affected the local population, the rumors that swept the streets, the alarms, the riots, the persecutions, the suspicions, and the sheer naked terror of the awful autumn when Jack the Ripper stalked the streets. This is a new take on the Jack the Ripper story. Focusing on the people who lived through the Ripper’s reign of terror, it shows what happened when familiar London streets suddenly became the hunting grounds of a monster. This is the authentic version of how the case of the Ripper pulled apart lives in London’s East End.
