DESCRIPTION:
"It explained what I didn't understand about myself in 2 chapters." according to blrmkr. I had heard the term "codependency" before, but never quite understood it. Having been in a dysfunctional family I started to read this so I could understand and perhaps find a way to manage the way my marriage had developed. Within the first two chapters everything became crystal clear. Written in a way that anyone could understand, this book made me realize how I had become codependent to someone who had severe anger and rage issue. Eye Opening It has opened my eyes completely to my issues of codependency. Growing up in a dysfunctional family, I thought I was the "normal" one, but turns out I just expressed my issues in different ways (over achiever, perfectionist, workaholic). The only thing I would have liked is more solutions, but it is very enlightening and I see now that I need to make changes so that I can live a healthy life.
Many Christians are caught up in the cycle of codependency brought about from living with an addict or growing up in a dysfunctional family. For example:* Love equals good works* Love means putting others before self* Love means I must never say not to someone in need.* We should not expect happiness in this life.Using the Twelve Step process of recovery groups, you will discover how Christ's example shows how true Christian love leads to healthy relationships and can help one understand and overcome distortions about love.. Indeed, it often seems that certain Christian beliefs and values seem to promote codependency
