Perfect place to start for those new to the Windows Phone 8 I think this book is a perfect place to start for those new to the Windows Phone 8 application development. The author covers a wide variety of topics at a level deep enough that you understand the topic and its context.A majority of my experience on Microsoft devices was with embedded C++ to develop Windows CE / Pocket PC and Tablet PC. That was years ago. Last year I built some proof of concepts with Windows Phone 7.5 which broke the ice for me moving to the Microsoft Windows Phone 8 platfor. Shiny Happy Reader Pete Easy to read and very informative especially from beginner/moderate programmer point of view. When Charles Petzold uses sometimes quite complicated examples, Wildermuth uses simple, straight-to-the-point examples focusing only to the issue handled at that particular point of chapter. And that works for me, perhaps because it gives my RISC-brains less info per package to chew? Anyway, I'm happy with this book because I feel that it has crystallize WP programming to me, kinda strengthen the over. "Made for beginners, but more resources are definitely necessary." according to Ebsan Uddin. This book does a great job of covering the basics from the Visual Studio IDE, selling your app, to Blend. There are some very important chapters in here too, eg. Local Storage, Database, Windows Phone Toolkit, etc. It's a good starting point, but the material in this book definitely requires you to look at more information from other sources to get a really good understanding of things.
