John plays in the world music ensemble Omnimusica and his first music publication, "Equal Intervalic Temperament: A System of Position Mapping on the Cello", is in homage to the rich and wonderful cello tradition that he is honored to be a part of. The trio performs American music in all its beauty and complexity. He is a member of the group Apalachee Trio with David Cobb (guitar) and Sean Gorman (bass). John is very much into crossing boundaries with cello playing, studying improvisation and Jazz with Matt Glaser at Berklee College of Music. . The author has studied cello in line with the great lineage of Leonard Rose. He had the honor of studying with Scott Kluksdahl, who studied with Rose at Julliard. The goal of the system is that cellists will find practicing easier and more productive, so that their performance will improve. This book is a system of mapping positions on the cello which are mathematically and logically sound. The material is explained in the first part of the book and then, in the second part, there are actual musical examples marked with position markings. The author has a student that has been playing only 5 months who is successfully completing Popper Etudes.
