It’s a smart and savage look at American culture in all its madness, and the price girls are forced to pay by a society obsessed with spectacle and sin.” (Cara Hoffman, author of So Much Pretty and Be Safe I Love You)“A Head Full of Ghosts doesn’t end just because you close the book. Terrifying, hilarious, smart, and satisfying.” (Stewart O'Nan, author of The Speed Queen, The Night Country, and A Prayer for the Dying)“Tremblay expertly ratchets up the suspense until the tension is almost at its breaking point.” (Kir

She believes a ghostly shadow of Tommy materializes in her bedroom, while Kate and other local residents claim to see a shadow peering through their windows in the dead of night. Then, random pages torn from Tommy’s journal begin to mysteriously appear—entries that reveal an introverted teenager obsessed with the phantasmagoric; the loss of his father, killed in a drunk-driving accident a decade earlier; a folktale involving the devil and the woods of Borderland; and a horrific incident that Tommy believed connects them.As the search grows more desperate, and the implications of what happened become more haunting and sinister, no one is prepared for the shocking truth about that night and Tommy’s disappearance at Devil’s Rock.. "Watch LAKE MUNGO first" according to Mephisto. I was a big fan of HEAD FULL OF GHOSTS and very much like Paul Tremblay's style; I also acknowledge the painstaking work -- the days and years -- that goes into writing a book as well done and as satisfyingly plotted as DEVIL'S ROCK. Finally, I'm aware that some of the best horror, some of the best fiction in any genre, reuses and reworks tropes and stories that have appeared elsewhere. HEAD FULL OF GHOSTS played with many conventions and many previous works and did so in interesting ways. But I had a real issue with this book: its central co. Terri said Couldn't put it down!. After reading "A Head Full of Ghosts" last year I couldn't wait for Tremblay's next book. There was also fear - fear that his next endeavor wouldn't live up to AHFOG. Turns out my fears were just silly.Boy can Mr. Tremblay spin a tale. His characters have such depth and you are instantly invested in them and their tale. We even get a glimpse into the thoughts of Allison, the detective assigned to Tommy's case, who really is just a bit player here. I can almost imagine Tremblay standing in front of a huge white board and fleshing out each char. "Great read" according to M.Mann. I love this author -- I was blown away by his Head Full a Of a Ghosts -- this book was good too but not as good as Head Full IMO. Something a little more juvenile about this book but still very good. I hope he can capture that magic again that he did in that book. It wasn't quite in this one. Still a great book just not sticking to me as the other did. Maybe it's not fair of me to compare but knowing what this author can do I can't help it. He can be much scarier i. and 1/2 stars if I could. But not 5- Head full of Ghosts gets 5.
