It raised the key historical points regarding the politics of Carson's career and writing, and it provided fascinating biography. Also importantly, the author compares then and now -- allowing readers to gain insight as to the ways in which corporate and state actors try to mute activists. It is one thing to try to construct this process as it occurs; looking historically, one finds it more difficult to argue with a situation wherein a cast of big companies provide poor (to false) information about products but also castigate outspoken activists on a personal level.
