Hicks, ACS Readers Haven blogAncient Elk Hunt is a crisp, entertaining read that's sure to capture a kid's imagination. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fishing, hunting, and outdoor activities.--M. When the author describes the forest as "a never-ending blur of white pine and yellow birch trees " and the lake as "blue lake water sparkled and dance around them," you yearn to see this almost untouched wilderness.--Katherine Prior, Foreword Reviews. Amazon Customer said The boys are back. Griffy, Pike and Gill are back for another summer adventure and this one is just as exciting as the first one. In the first adventures the three had to battle a giant muskie roaming Lost Land Lake, this time around they will have to do battle with red heads, duck itch, and will have to find away to save a camp that is about to close. Always an adventure to be found at Whispering Pines lodge and Lost Land Lake. Where there is a mystery to be solved and a summer job to be done you will find Griffy, Pike and Gill. This series is a . "Super read and great characters in this series! Super read and great characters in this series! 4.5 Stars! Ufoundbrent The fun of kayaking, fishing, exploring, nature adventuring, and finding fossils for two friends who enjoy each others company a second summer in a row, make this a terrific read. The writing style itself both pulls a reader right into the story and SLIPS a reader definitely into the almost swashbuckling milieu. Now I wish to read the first book of the series, 'Muskie Attack", as there are plenty of avid fisherfolk in our family. I see a third book to this series comes out soon (Snakehead Invasion) which is about voracious fish. .5 Stars!" according to Ufoundbrent. My daughter and I enjoyed reading this together. It's in the same style as Muskie Attack with chapters that contain separate stories slowly weaved together. Sure the characters and events are exaggerated (the biggest muskie ever, the worst case of duck itch ever, the biggest crawdad ever), but we had a good time making fun of that too!Is it great literature - no. But my daughter liked it and that's what counts.
