"Okay for the beginner" according to Marcus Emesarius. This book offers a basic overview of the subject of traditional akido. Inside, one will find some information concerning the developmental history of akido and some typical instruction with respect to breakfalls, warm-up exercises, basic work with weapons, and some very traditional akido moves that may have only limited value as defensive strategies on the street. "Aikido Step BY Step" is not a bad book even if you consider the small instructional photographs and text. But, after reading this book, I would say that this book is suitable for beginners or those who are looking for a general introduction to the subject.. "Good Intent; Poor Execution" according to Einstein's Mentor. "An expert course"??? I can assure you that one cannot learn the art of Aikido from a condensed book, no matter how motivated. The intent was noble but to cover all bases of an intricate art form requires a lot more than can be found here. The is an appetizer written in Point 6 font so bring a magnifying glass for this one…There are other excellent Aikido books on Amazon, all in readable fonts, in case you crave the main course. "Good basics book for Aikido" according to Joseph Kimball. The first third of the book and the last ten pages were the most generally helpful, covering the history and philosophy of this martial art, and basic good information about uniforms and choosing a studio that will be compatible with where you want to go with Aikido. The rest of the book describes various techniques that would be commonly learned by an Aikido student. The book is printed on nice paper, and most of the photos are color, and most are well posed for the requirements of the book. The techniques in the book are written to go with specific photos in sequence - typically three to eight photos with accompanying text. Most fit on
